The UNC Charlotte Urban Institute serves a 14-county region that spans the central Carolinas.  Centered around Charlotte (Mecklenburg County), the region includes eleven counties in North Carolina and three in South Carolina.  Together, these counties comprise a diverse and complex region that has undergone dramatic economic and physical changes in recent decades, while still retaining a deep connection to its rich cultural and natural heritage.
